About:

Moonshot is a physical board game designed to boost creativity and collaboration within teams during workshops. The company offers in-person workshops where teams ideate and innovate using the game as a playful catalyst.

  • In response to the growing need for remote collaboration—especially during the pandemic—I contributed as the sole UX/UI designer and ideation lead on the full digital transformation of Moonshot, bringing this unique workshop experience online for distributed teams.
  • Translating a tactile, collaborative game into a seamless digital experience that preserves creativity and team dynamics was the core challenge of this project.
  • Working closely with the game creator and a developer, I researched, designed, and helped build an immersive platform that supports remote, interactive workshops while retaining the game’s playful spirit and strategic depth.

Understanding the challange:

Moonshot’s core gameplay relies heavily on physical interaction: crafting tokens, group discussions, and a game master facilitating turns. Reproducing these rich, tactile experiences in a digital, asynchronous environment required deep research and creative problem-solving.

Challenges & Goals:
  • Translate a complex, tactile physical board game into a fully digital interactive experience.
  • Design for remote teams connecting via platforms like Zoom, ensuring the game is easily shareable and playable during virtual workshops.
  • Address two primary user groups:

    – Team Members: engaging, straightforward gameplay that encourages creativity and collaboration.

    – Team Leads / Organizers: tools and controls for workshop setup, progress tracking, and outcomes visibility.
  • Maintain the core creative and social dynamics that made the physical game successful.
User Personas

Interface:

Situated discreetly at the bottom right, the “next” button facilitates a seamless transition to the next turn, and for timed tasks, the next player’s circle transforms into a timer. These adjustments, integral to the digitalization process, contribute to an intuitive and immersive interface that complements the game’s innovative and creative essence.
